| Attempted to re-construct one of the poster done by Toulouse-Lautrec. Poster showing La Goulue dancing among the audience - if his drawing is as honest, the distance between performers and audience is close enough to almost be touchable - you can even smell their perfume, or sweat. Existing interior of Mouline Rouge, it is still very red (like Mark Luther said) and luxurious. Below is existing photo. First it ain't much of a landmark anymore, it is surrounded. I also have to do a bit of traffic analysis if I want to execute my idea Coming up next - detail site analysis, 3 schemes and start to look into "superflat architecture", another thing I dislike but I believe works pretty well with this project

| Moulin Rouge, a cabaret built in 1889. Located at the round about of Place Blanche along Boulevard Clichy. The cradle of cancan dance and source of inspiration for legendary Henri Toulose-Lautrec. Is to be transformed into a dance school. It was a struggle to choose this project because there was an alternative - to design a space for homeless child, which I had experience in designing such. But the choice was overwhelmingly obvious that I practically drool to design a dance school because of my passion for music - and hatred for dancing. It is a very risky project and methods of designing will just as risky. It'll either by the ticket to heaven or a highway to hell. Anyway here is preliminary site (SWOT) analysis:
Strength: - Located at a street corner allows easy access. - It has a pleasant and flat streetscape and greenery around providing great space to watch, or to perform - Historical value is HUGE - Windmill provides strong identity to the building, especially when it's red =P
Weakness: - Programs provided used most of the floor areas provided, it has to either extend over 25m height or goes underground to provide more circulation/other spaces - The windmill can be in the way as well: is it the windmill that creates the historical value? or the legacy of Moulin Rouge making the windmill so important?
Opportunity: - Height limit is slightly higher than the surroundings - I can reach out to the street/neighbourhood
Threat: - It's still a red light district - ooorah!!! It creates lots of distraction though - Existing buildings butting up right to the site boundary, there is no room to design elevation. Internal space is the only area designer can wrestle with.
Concepts: This will be subject to change over time, added or cancelled - Choice of keeping the mill will depend on situation, it is a landmark and heritage afterall - No, no, not the elephant =P (Yes there was an elephant constructed like in the movie - and it served the same purpose) - Dance studio is purely functional, nothing much can do about it. But have to emphasize the connection between function spaces and the street, doing such can promote dancing as well. - Take it to the streets! Engage the pedestrian, show them that's-how-it's-done - By doing so it REVIVE THE INTIMACY BETWEEN THE PERFORMERS AND AUDIENCE of the old time

| Can't believe this stupid blog becomes one of the tool that I would use as the last design project. The one I'm working on is to transforming what is left of Moulin Rouge in Paris into a dance school. This blog page serves as a document of my thinking (random or not) and progress of my design. And EVERYONE can comment on it - basically pooling in ideas, pranks, corrections etc.
It took more than an hour to clear old entries (they don't have delete all blogs button) and some other old silly stuff. So if you see anything doesn't look right, childish or stupid, that's probably what I added during... say some 3-4 years ago?
